BreastGlobal is committed to enhancing the quality of breast surgical training across the globe. Despite breast cancer being the most cancer in the world to affect women, Breast Surgery as a vertical sub-specialty has not gained universal traction… Consequently, general surgical specialists with no structured specialist training in this discipline treat patients. There can be no doubt that the harmonisation of training in routine and specialist oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery will positively impact patient-related outcomes.

BreastGlobal acknowledges that the training needs of surgeons in different parts of the world are not the same; that is why we are pioneering a novel approach to provide needs-based training modules. To deliver these modules, our research team will identify gaps in breast cancer care provision through a structured analysis of data accrued from the collaborative efforts of our team of global leaders and partner societies from across the world. Once we have identified these gaps in knowledge and expertise, our team of international key opinion leaders will deliver region-specific, tailored online educational programmes.

The training of existing and trainee surgeons in breast cancer surgery and allied specialities will be a key driver in delivering equitable breast cancer care world-wide. Our platform has the unique ability to provide massive online open courses (MOOCs). Through this digital platform, we will provide training in various related subjects ranging from basic training in breast cancer surgical techniques to adopting technologies. Proficiency certificates will be awarded to surgeons that undertake these courses and successfully complete the training modules.

Prof. Jerome Pereira and Prof. Christos Markopoulos, both highly accomplished academics and world-renowned for designing examinations in breast surgical specialisation, will be leading our training programme to ensure that the educational content and competency assessments are of the highest standard.
